STRIDE OPEN ART COMPETITION 2010

Our annual open art competition, sponsored by local auctioneer and valuers Stride & Son, is just around the corner! This is a competition for artists living in the local area (see qualifying postcodes). Artists can submit up to 4 pieces of original 2D work for a submission fee of £8 per work (£6 Oxmarket Members & Friends). If you would like to enter please call into the gallery or email with your name and postal address and we will send you an entry pack.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Qualifying Artists : The Stride Open Art is open to artists living within the qualifying area as defined by postcodes as shown in the postcode list.
Selectors & Judges : All work submitted will be viewed by the Selection Panel. Award winners will be decided by the Judge. Oxmarket Centre of Arts reserves the right to appoint or change selectors and judge at its discretion. The Selection Panel has absolute discretion as to acceptance of work for exhibition.
Entering Works: Original 2D works in any medium are acceptable with the exception of reproductions, photographs & photographically manipulated work. Each artist may submit a maximum of 4 works. There is a non-refundable entry fee of £8 per entry. Members/Friends of Oxmarket Centre of Arts £6 per entry. The maximum size for work is 40” (102 cm) on its longest edge. Larger work up to 44” wide and 6 feet high may be submitted by arrangement (please advise in advance of submission). All entries must be the original work of the artist. All work should conform to all applicable health and safety standards and regulations.
Entry Form & Accept/Decline Postcards: Complete the Entry Form & the Accept/Decline postcard. Affix a 1st Class stamp to the postcard. Artists will be advised if their work has been accepted by the Accept/ Decline postcard. The title, medium and price indicated on the Entry Form may not be changed after the day of submission and will be used for wall labels.
Framing, Glazing, Fittings & Labels: All pictures submitted must be framed to a professional standard. Glass, metal or perspex clip frames are inadmissible. Unframed work (i.e. canvas on a stretcher) will only be considered if the edges are painted. Please attach D or eyelet ring style fixings to the side of the frame approximately one third from the top. Mirror plates are not acceptable. One adhesive label must be fixed to the back of each picture with the artists name, title of work, medium & price and a hanging parcel label with the same information fixed so that it will hang over the front to assist identification.
Sale of Works & Handling Fee: All works are for sale. Prices of work must take into account the Oxmarket Centre of Arts handling fee of 25% and 2.5% if a purchase is made by credit card, 60p fixed for debit card. The minimum selling price for artwork is £80. Any sale of work to the public will be at the price shown on the Entry Form. It is a term of any sale of works of art and other goods that Oxmarket Centre of Arts is and acts at all times as Agent only, on behalf of its Principal, the selling owner.
Insurance: All entries are submitted at the artist’s own risk. Insurance of artists work is not covered by the Oxmarket Centre of Arts. ARTISTS MUST ARRANGE THEIR OWN INSURANCE.
Unaccepted Work: Unaccepted work must be collected by Saturday 2nd October 2010 or earlier by arrangement during the exhibition period.
Collection of Unsold Work: Unsold work must be collected at the close of the Exhibition between 4.30pm and 6pm on Saturday 9th October 2010. Works will be released on presentation of the Accept/Decline postcard.
